Venice is the perfect city to wander and lose yourself in. Every corner offers something new, and purposefully getting lost can lead you to uncover its most hidden places and secrets.
Venice is like a treasure chest brimming with marvelous sights and stories waiting to be discovered. Here’s a list of 5 hidden places in Venice you probably haven’t explored yet.
ACQUA ALTA BOOKSHOP
This unique bookstore is located in Campiello del Tintor, just a few steps from Campo Santa Maria Formosa, home to the famous Querini Foundation. Its name, “Acqua Alta” (high tide), hints at its special setup. When the water level rises, especially in winter, the store often floods. Therefore, books are kept in gondolas, boats, and even a bathtub.
In the small back courtyard, you’ll find another surprise: a staircase made of books that you can actually climb. It’s an ideal spot for a unique photo or selfie.
SANTA MARIA DEI MIRACOLI CHURCH
Another hidden gem in Venice is the Church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli. Don’t dismiss it as “just another church” – this one stands out from all the others in the city. From our hotel, you can reach Santa Maria dei Miracoli in just 15 minutes.
This church, also known as the “marble church,” boasts a colorful marble facade, making it one of the finest examples of early Venetian Renaissance architecture.
JEWISH GHETTO
Few people know that the very first Jewish ghetto in Europe is in Venice. Located behind Salizada Rio Terà S. Leonardo, near Fondamenta dei Ormesini, this area retains its historical traditions. Here, you can visit three of the five open synagogues and the Jewish Museum.
CAMPIELLO REMER
This magical spot is off the beaten path and can be quite tricky to find. Starting from our hotel, follow the directions to Rialto Bridge. From Campo S. Bortolomeo continue to Salizada Fontego dei Tedeschi, after ‘Fiaschetteria Toscana’ turn left to Corte del Remer and continue down the narrow street. At the end of the street, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the Grand Canal.
This serene and stunning place offers a unique perspective of the majestic Rialto Bridge.

Did you know that St. Mark’s Basilica isn’t the only church in Venice with a crypt? San Zaccaria, located behind St. Mark’s Square, conceals a beautiful crypt. For just 1.5 euros, you can visit this hidden gem and create a memorable experience.
